urban roots

18 Jul

i recently went to an awesome event. hosted on a farm. right here in austin. urban roots, a great community program that works with area youth to teach healthy and sustainable eating/living habits, hosted its an annual community lunch series this summer, where guests are treated to delicious eats prepared by the program’s kids and a local chef, with ingredients straight from the land we dined on.

the chef featured during my lunch was jam sanitchat of thai fresh (which has been on my to-try list), and the menu was a scrumptuous mix of asian-inspired dishes – meats, curries, vegetables and salads. my favorite part may have been the über simple dessert: sweet sticky rice with raw figs picked right off the trees dotting the urban roots farm.

this is an incredible program and an incredible dining series. will definitely be on the look-out for next year’s line-up (a word to the wise: each lunch fills up really quickly, so don’t hesitate in signing up!)
